I am writing to recommend Melanie Mathews as a Human Resources consultant. As outside employment counsel for Martin Resource Management Corporation (“Martin”), I have had the opportunity to work closely with Melanie for over 13 years in her capacity as Vice President of Human Resources for that company. I have interacted with Melanie on matters involving virtually every aspect of the employment relationship, including recruiting and hiring, performance management and discipline, administration of company policies and benefits, legal compliance, internal investigations, and defending administrative proceedings and lawsuits. I have worked with countless Human Resources professionals over 30 years, and Melanie truly stands out for her depth of knowledge, judgment, and commitment to the job.

Serving as Chief Human Resources Officer of Delta Regional Medical Center, Melanie was invaluable to me in my role as CEO in the face of many challenging circumstances in a very difficult labor market environment. Her tremendous knowledge and skill in the HR arena contributed greatly to the successes we enjoyed and I shall be forever grateful for the positive impact her abilities had on our staff and on our leadership team during those years. Melanie was also a forceful ambassador in our community, which also served our hospital well. I recommend her highly and without reservation.

As a small church, we did not have the luxury of having our own dedicated Human Resources Department. The responsibility for the typical duties of an HR group fell to our Personnel Committee. The committee realized the importance of having an Employee Handbook, but we were concerned that none of the members were knowledgeable of the labor laws, which need to be factored into the development of such a document. We decided we needed professional help, so we turned to Melanie Mathews. We now have a handbook that communicates our employment policies and practices to our church staff and congregation and has also taken into the account the many laws relevant to such a document. This was only possible due to Melanie’s HR expertise.
